How To Lose The Love Handles?

Yesterday Workout
Treadmill: 20mins
Stairmaster: 20min
Arms: 60min
Abs Exercise: 15min

I see many guys at the gym that workout 3 or 4 times a week but still have bellies and love handles hanging out there. The trick is to increase cardios to burn more calories and tighten your abdominial muscles. I have to admit if you really want to lose weight, you'd have to use cardio machines. At least 20mins everyday. I started routine cardio 2 months ago. I'm beginning to see my body shaped like a swimmer. Normally, guys have love handles and girls have bellies. Guys need to concentrate on using 2 dumbells to tighten side bends and girls need to work on crunches. Perform cardio 3-4 times a week and increase weight on abdominial exercise, you'd see a V-shaped taper to your torso. Also, diet is very important. Try to lower your overall body fat by consuming wheat breads, eggs, lean chicken, lotsa fruits and vegetables. Then, you body will be solid!

Shopping Spree

I had succumbed to shopping again. This is my second week went on a shopping spree. This is really addictive, i need to stop. Otherwise, I'd have a heart attack when I see my credit card bills. Anyway, I got a pair of flip-flops from A/F, few preppy long-sleeve shirts, white harness belts(very norcal style), and a pair of tennis shoes(above) for Memorial Weekend. I bought those shoes and sunglasses from Haight/Ashbury. For those who dont know where Haight/Ashbury is, it is well-known street in the 60s where hippies were gathering to play music and the whole drug revolution culture started from there. Nowadays, you can find unique clothes and shoes, onstentatious sunglasses, imported crafts and handmade arts, accessories, candles and incense, and many many more. Thus, I bought my sunglasses from Bang-on and shoes I got it from Villian Inc. Pretty neat, huh?

Beware IM Viruses

My computer is infected by a messenger virus. It was sent by an anonymous person on my im list. I left my IM turned on last night or every night. When I woke up this morning, my desktop was bombarted with pop-up windows. The pop-up window looks like this..

The thing i hate about this is to find out the virus sent to my friends' im. Now, people are pissed at me. I have no idea who sent this malicious virus to me. If I find out, he's dead meat! I turned off my PC when I left home. I didn't have time to clean up. I'd have to do it later when i get home.

How Caffeine Works?

Why does caffeine wake you up? Whu do many people consume so much caffeine? Now that I'm drinking so much energy drinks, coffee and tea. I want to find out how caffeine works.

1) Adenosine (A den o sine)
Adenosine is created in the brain to promote sleep. It binds to adenosine receptors(A specialized group or cell of nerve ending respond to stimulation). The binding of adenosine causes oneself to fall asleep or slow down nerve cell activity.

2) Caffeine
When you consume caffeine, it therefore binds to the adenosine receptor. What caffeine does is surrounding adenosine receptors so the cell cannot see adenosine anymore. When you increase more caffeine, cells eventually cannot preceive adenosine. Therefore, instead of slowing down cell's activity(as adenosine would) it speeds up your brain cells.

Caffeine also causes the brain's blood vessels to constrict. Because of that, it blocks adenosine's ability to open up so you won't fall asleep. However, this effect might cause adenosine to disagree with the blood vessels compression and might cause a headache.

3) Adrenaline
Now that you're awaked, you have increased neuron firing in the brain. Your brain's activity speeds up and thinks some sort of emergency must be occurring. It then releases hormones to produce adrenaline. Adrenaline gives you energy to meet your physical and emotional stress.

"Bestest"

Where did "bestest" come from? Who invented this word? Is it a trend? and why are many people using it? My friend Edwyn told me "bestest" came from philipino english who they used it as a slang. But, I'm seeing more peeps are using it online.

My sister left me a comment yesterday. She said, "Your bestest sister." I thought she's my best sister. How can she be my "bestest" sister. I gave her my best. But, I guess it's not enough. She has to be "the bestest sister."

If more and more people are using "bestest", can it be embedded in dictionary? It's just like the word "bling bling." It's defined in Oxford dictionary now.

Faux Korean Cds

I bought 2 cds from Korean town in San Jose. When I inspected the cds, I knew there were cribbed. Let me tell you what happened at the store. I asked the lady, "Is this original or pirated?" She nodded but didn't say anything. I thought she couldn't speak English well. So, I asked her, "How much are these cds?" She replied promptly $16 each. I asked her again, "These cds are original not copy, right?" She nodded again. Alright, I took her words for it and told myself why not. Then when I got home, I opened the seal and realized that I got cheated. These cds don't have real front-covers, no lyrics or photos and cds itselves not labelled. I was so pissed and furious. I was about to return them. But, I have to drive an hour to san jose to get my refunds. Hence, I decided to call my credit card and make a dispute. BofA wasn't able to give full refunds but I managed to talk them over for partial credits. I'm still pissed. I can't believe Korean cheated on me. I opt not to buy cds from korean town. Thank god I didn't buy the big mashimaro. What a scam!

Zero Carb and Low Calories

1/2 oz Sky vodka
1/2 oz diet 7up
1/2 twist of lime
1 bag of Equal sugar

I needed a drink to watch Desperate Housewives on Sunday evening. I was hoping I could make mijotos but I didn't have any mint at home. Hence, I came up with this drink -low calories/zero carbs. It tasted awfully good. Basically, I dissolved Equal sugar with 1/2 sky vodka. Mixed it with diet 7up and added a twist of lime. It came out refreshing.

Bay to Breakers

If you live in the Bay Area/San Francisco, you must participate Bay to Breakers. Bay to breakers is an annual marathon event that raise funds for leukemia & Lymphoma society, sports medicine institute, and Organs society. The marathon starts at 8am and we have to complete a 7miles footrace. Amita, David, Asha, And I started our race late. But, we did manage to catch up. The most difficult part of the race was hiking on Hayes street Hill. It was exhausting even though I had 2 rockstars in the morning. Then, I finally convinced David to buy 2 bottles of beer to refill my energy. As we were walking on the race, the crowd got tumulturously loud. Some people were dressing up in halloween costumes, drinking beers and some were blatantly loud turning up their boombox, peeing at people's house, and some guys/girls were doing beer bong. It was just fun, fun, and more fun. The weather was awesome today. It was exactly what I was hoping for -not warm or hot just mild foggy. I'd say it was a perfect morning to start my workout without being at the gym.

P/S: I had 2 rockstars for the race. My sista will kill me for this. lol

Down in San Jose

Picture 1: With a friend, David, went down to San Jose for a quick kim chee lunch. The restaurant that we ate at, it's called Korean Palace BBQ aka all you can eat buffet.

G6PD Deficiency

I only did 20mins of the treadmill but an hour of upper body today. Yesterday, I had a rockstar before I went to dinner. I don't think RockStar and Wine mixed well together. But thank gawd I only had 1 glass of wine. I realiazed that I need to slow down on my alcohol consumption too. Everytime I drink alcohol, my body and face will get warm and lead to breakouts. I think it's because of the heat and warm liquors that induces my body.


Growing up, I was told by my parents that I have G6PD Deficiency . My parents wasn't very keen to educate my sister and I on enzyme deficiency. I did my own little research. Basically, G6PD deficiency leads to an abnormal rupture (breakage) of the red blood cells called Hemolytic anemia (abnormally low red blood cell count). When you have low red blood cell, it no longer transport oxygen effectively throughout the body. Then, Hemolytic anemia will arises. If it isn't properly treated, you will get jaundice(body turns yellowish discoloration of whites of the eyes), abdominal or back pain, dizziness, headache, dyspnea(irregular breathing), and palpitations(Irregular shaking/like palm or heart).

I have to avoid Fava Beans because it causes an allergic reaction to my body. My mom had been telling me cashew nuts was the legume that I should be avoiding. But in fact, it's Fava Beans. I love my parents but this is kind of reckless. I wish they were more knowledageble about my health.

Moved From Houston

I went out with a friend that recently moved from Houston to San Francisco. We ate a Chow's restaurant. He thought the restaurant was too noisy. But, most san francisco restaurants are pretty boisterious. Anyway, E is a very nice guy. I would describle him as affable and amiable. However, he reminded myself that I first got here.

After dinner, we went to Gold's gym. He was interested in becoming a member. But, I fell the sales agent, that he talked to, was totally tried to scam him. Agent was asking $115 application and $55 monthly membership fees. I know it doesn't cost that much. Usually, gold's has free app. fees and pormotion rates. But, E was chatty and even told that guy he recently moved here. Of course the sales agent tried to further his marketing tactics and convince him to join the gym.

When the sale person asked if I was interested, I just looked away. Then, E told me in cantonese, " Why you so Chuen?" which translate, " Why are you so pompous or arrogant?" I told him, I wasn't interested and that agent wasn't very candor. Oh well, I didn't want to carry the conversation. It's really none of my business. I'll let him figure it out himself. If he wants to pay $55 per month for gym membership. I'll let him do it. That's how I had learned too.

My question is, here I am trying to meet some new friends. But, should I even try or stay in the circle of friends that i've already known...

Rip it!

Rip it tastes like dirt. It takes a full can to feel the buzz and energy. But, it not the same feeling as Rockstar. Rockstar feels great after you drink it. But, Rip it gives you just enough energy to start your day. My only problem is that you hardly find this drink in any convinient stores. My co-worker, Wendy, bought this from Albertson and it was the last can. I still prefer Rockstar. If you can't find rockstar, rip it can be a good replacement. Oh yeah, they have Rip it lite. Zero Calories. I think my sister read this, she'll yell at me again. LOL

Should I move?

I was so psyched! We had a meeting today. I was offered for a position to move to New York. I told my boss I couldn't give him an answer but would like to have some time to think through it. I was so happy and mentioned to a few friends. They were really excited and supportive. However, I'm falling off the wagon here. Despite the great news, I'm still not sure if I should move to new york or stay in norcal. My initial plan is to finish my master degree in Cali and then find a job in nyc for 2-3 years. But now, I have an opportunity to move and company will pay for moving expenses. I know I love san francisco. But, at the age of where I'm at, I need to step up to the games and be more adventurous. I definately need more time to contemplate and scrutinize the decision. The new position is completely different from what I'm doing right now. It will be very challenging and difficult. I need to mull over this tonight. Meawhile, I did 45min workout without rockstar or anything chemical drinks. Only water!

P/s: Sis, I think I saw Jocelyn at the gym. Remember our "lonbang" lookalike sisters and her wicked mom? Is Jocelyn in SF? How tall is she? I didn't dare to say hi. She was behind my treadmill and was staring at her. she noticed me too. But, it was awkward to say hi.

Sister's Admonishment

I finally got chided by my sister. She read my blog about drinking rockstar. She told me to slow down on energy drinks and not to get addicited to it. I realized that past few weeks I have been unduly consuming rockstar and reluctantly to slow down. Energy drinks do have alot of chemicals and strong caffeine. I think drink moderately is the best way to keep myself from addicted to it. Tomorrow, I'll make an effort to decline drink rockstar at work. Just start my day mundane by drinking water. Bye bye rockstar. Sorry sis, I hope you forgive me. Love you.

Amazing Race 7

I was rhapsodic and ecstatic when I saw Uchenna and Joyce won the Amazing Race 7. I was rooting for them to win the race. Second place went to Rob and Amber who dominated the entire race this season. Rob and Amber were really competitive throughout the race. They were aggro, arrogant, ignorant, pushy, crafty, and rude. I'm so glad that they didn't win. They were really mean and manipulative to all contestants. This is a good example, "Whats goes around, comes around." Bad karma!

Monday's Nite Out

He was at socal when I got his email and had to attend a last minute business trip in the bay area. Hence, we decided to meet at The Bar. I was ecstatic when I saw him. He lost weight and looked so much better. I didn't know it's only $2 drinks on monday nite. --but that's minor. We were all holding drinks when we took this photo(laughs). I didn't drink very much but good enough to get sloshed. At one point, I was embarrassed when I forgot Richard's name. I had a great time. I hope mike comes visit more often. I do miss him alot. See you soon mike!

Today is a Bitch!

My body is so sore from this weekend's ferocious workouts. I woke up and my body was extremely exhausted. I just got in the office and awfully busy. People are extremely agitated and soured today. I think everyone had a doom weekend and pissed at everybody! I just want to blog about this to make me feel better. Oh well, I'm not going to let them ruin my day. Peace outz!

Rockstar Fever

Oh my gawd, I bought a case of Rockstar from costco. I was skeptical at first but when I saw how low the price was, I couldn't resist to stack them on my cart. It was only $27.99 for 24 cans. I hope I dont end up at Betty Ford Center. I'll update you guys see how long I can survive.

To that chinese/philipino guy next to my treadmill, you have a strong odor! Either take a shower or put some Axel or Tagz on! Also, please don’t dig your nose. This is not your typical Chinatown gym!

To that 4-eye white guy in your skimpy little short short, you fr*ckin' stink! Stay away from me and wash your clothes in the locker!

To that black dude running next to my elliptical. No disrespect, but you stink too! I know you have braided hair. It doesn't mean you can't keep it clean! Wash your hair regularly. Otherwise, don’t run next to me!

To that Hispanic/latino lady running next my treadmill, I'm sorry that I farted on you. I couldn't hold it. I was on my ipod and 45min marathon. My ipod was too loud. I couldn't hear the break wind, but I think you did! I saw you covered your nose with a towel. I felt really bad! Next time I promise no curry for dinner!

Rockstar Hunting...

I went energy drinks hunting this morning! Lazy ass Walgreens doesn't open until 8am on weekends. I found a donut deli (no, I didn't get any donuts) who carried energy drinks. But, the store had only monster drinks. So, I decided to give monster a try. I brought the drink to the gym, work out for an hour, and after an hour I still couldn't feel any buzz or energy. Man, Monster was a total sissy. First, I was already pissed at the deli overcharged the drink ($3.50 per can). And then, the drink didn't give any energy but made me sleepy. I did a few arms and chests. I told myself I couldn't take it anymore. I had to go rockstar hunting!

I left the gym in search for my diet rockstar. I was so desperate. I walked to 2 walgreens, Cala foods, and any convenient stores around the gym. Finally, I found a liquor store that carried regular rockstar. I waited no time and bought it instantly. I had my rockstar, I was back on track. Went back to the gym and worked out for 2 hours!

My friend, Edwyn, went out last night to celebrate a so-called "portland hippies gig." I recommended diet rockstar to him last week. He tried regular rockstars with 8 different beers and partied from 6-2pm. Man, he must have alot of energy to dance! I haven't tried rockstar with alcohol but he sounded utterly energetic on the phone. Should I try? hmm..

E-Wallet Scam

Guyz, I just experienced the dreaded E-wallet scam. This happened when I received several unsolicited txt messages from Cingular/ATT last month. When I opened the txt messages or forcibly replied "no thanks", I automatically signed up for the service. This is rather daunting. I unforeseeably get $1 charge on my monthly bill.

E-wallet is a service where people use to download graphics and subscribe ring tones monthly. When you are unnoticeably signed up for the service, no email or confirmation needed or provided. You are opted to pay for monthly charges until you call your provider to remove or block this service. The merchant that sent me unsolicited txt messanges is MQube or Mblock. Cingular customer service told me, Mcube/Mblock could charge as many times as they want and Cingular is not responsible for my changes. Thank god, the CS was nice enough to give me a refund this time.

I restricted E-wallet from my phone. This is the biggest scam, ever! Watch out for your phone bill.

Do not try Sobe No Fear! This drink is awful and bitter. It's like an extremely bad English 800 taste with lot of caffeine and sugar free juice on it. My coworker, Wendy, bought this from Safeway yesterday. She had to spit it out. By the way, if you're looking for diet Rockstar, Walgreens is selling $2.50 per can but you can get from Safeway for $1.99. Walgreens is friggin' expensive. Also, you can get (20 cans) by the case for $36 at Costco. But, not recommended-
Ranting on American Idol:
Listen up people, do not vote for Scott Savol! Stop voting for him, I really mean it! He needs to go home tonight. On the other hand, Corey Clark, a contestant who dropped out from 2003 show, is coming out with a book "tell-it-all" where he has an alleged affair with Paula Abdul. Melancholy Day:
The weather is gloomy and cloudy today. My friends David and Amita are sick. David had a nightmare or insomnia spell. He probably didn't get enough sleep from last night and caught a cold. Meanwhile, Amita told me she has a nervous allergy breakdown. Her husband, Prajwol, is out of town for couple of days. I think she misses her husband. You know they can' stay apart and still enjoying their honeymoons. I saw a picture of my friends from NYC. They went to Japan Cherry Blossom Festival. I'm glad that they had so much fun. Sadly, they didn’t tell me anything about it. But then, who am I to care?

What Energy Drink If You Can't Deliver?

This drink just didn't quite cut it. It tasted awfully nasty and gave me a headache. I'm having a headache as I'm typing now. It's made by coke company and again, what was I thinking? I'm tasting some energy drinks for my upcoming bay to breakers race www.baytobreakers.com . My friend, Amita, is going to join me for the race. I hope she doesn't bail out on me. Otherwise, I will be very upset. Diet Rockstar is still my favorite. Man, I need to drink more water to get the toxic out of my system. Oh yeah, can I get a refund?

1, 2 Step

I made this dish for dinner. It tasted so yummy, thought you might want to try it. Here is how to make this in 1, 2 step. First, I drizzled some olive oil in a heated flying pan with one teaspoon of minced garlic sauce(bought from costco). Second, I added some chopped cabbage and 2 teaspoons of trader joe's garlic mustard sauce(see right). Stir-fried for about 3-4min. If you dont have tjs sauce, just use any garlic mustard sauce. Finally, I added jumbo shrimps and cooked for about 1-2min. wau-lah! A scrumptious dinner.

Party like a ROCKSTAR!

New Addiction!!! Every Sunday morning I do my routine workout. I drink a cup of coffee to give myself a little boost. But this morning, I forgot to bring my coffee with me. Hence, I decided to stop by Walgreens before the gym. I picked up an energy drink called diet ROCKSTAR. Man, this drink tasted so good and vigoriously strong. It only took one sip and jolted my 5 senses. I didn't know if it was the diet taste or caffeine boost, but my body was awaken and full of energy. Then, Tamia (still -Lenny Bertoldo Club Mix) from my ipod shuffle came aboard. I could feel my head-banging and heart-beating to every euphoric ryhthm. The next thing I knew, I jumped into the treadmill for 45min. Also, it felt good holding a drink "partying like a rockstar". But seriously, I was sweating like I'd never sweated before. I can see why my co-worker drinks a rockstar every morning before work. If you're into energy drinks, try this! But, dont drink more than 2. You might get a headache. Remember, drink moderately! Profiteroles

I finally made profiteroles on Saturday night. It wasn't bad but the dough came out rather small not puffy. I thought the dough was supposed to mound?? Maybe I put too much egg on the dough. But, I like the mixture of ricotta and marcarpone cheese. Anyway, I dont like cheese much but it tasted tantalizing and mouthwatering. On the other hand, I put too much Nutella topping.
